Plumbing and domestic heating technicians work in the building services side of construction. They install, maintain, and repair systems that provide hot and cold water, heating, and drainage in homes and buildings. Their work covers
everything from pipework and bathrooms to boilers and rainwater systems. After mastering core plumbing tasks, they specialise in areas like domestic gas heating. The role combines technical skill with customer service, and technicians often work independently
or as part of a team on-site or in customers’ homes.

Gateway Requirements
The stage of the apprenticeship where the apprentice, employer and training provider determine whether the apprentice is ready to undertake end-point assessment.
Apprentice must achieve English and mathematics qualifications in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
Apprentice must have achieved the Level 3 Diploma in plumbing and domestic heating.
For option 1 apprentices must have completed the training, but not the assessments for CCN1 and CENWAT or equivalent qualifications.
Apprentice must have compiled and submitted an EPA portfolio, which the interview will be based.
