Summary
An engineering operative is involved in engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a workforce with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustain the sector. The role covers a wide range of common and job-specific skill sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors during the course of their careers.
End-point Assessment Components
Practical skills observation - The apprentice undertakes work related to the specific role they are working towards in their normal place of work or in a simulated environment (2 hours +/- 10 minutes and this includes questioning)
Professional Discussion (40 minutes and can be increased by up to 2 minutes, to allow the apprentice to complete their last answer.) Between 5 – 7 open questions will be asked. Additional follow-up questions are allowed, to seek clarification.
Gateway Requirements
The stage of the apprenticeship where the apprentice, employer and training provider determine whether the apprentice is ready to undertake end-point assessment
Apprentices must have compiled and submitted a portfolio of evidence to underpin the professional discussion
Apprentices must have achieved English and Mathematics at Level 1; the requirement to have taken the tests for Level 2 was removed in August 2022 Apprentices must have achieved Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (competence)
Apprentice must have achieved Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in engineering Operations (Knowledge)
